Mel is a Speech Pathologist with over 18 years of experience working with adults with acquired and traumatic brain injuries and a wide range of neurological conditions. She has practised across hospital, rehabilitation, community, rural, and private practice settings in Australia and the UK.

A significant part of Mel’s career has been dedicated to specialist brain injury rehabilitation units, including major services in both north and south Brisbane, as well as within dedicated neurorehabilitation services in the United Kingdom. Her clinical experience spans the full continuum of care for individuals with acquired brain injury—from those in prolonged disorders of consciousness (PDOC) to individuals preparing to return to work, study, or community life. 

Mel also has extensive experience working with people with progressive neurological conditions, including Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease and early-onset dementia.  She provides assessment and intervention focused on maintaining function and quality of life, supporting communication, and managing changes over time. She is accredited to deliver Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT).

She provides evidence-based assessment and intervention in:

  • Aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia of speech

  • Cognitive-communication disorders

  • Social/pragmatic communication

  • Swallowing difficulties (dysphagia)

  • Vocational rehabilitation following acquired brain injury

  • Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC)

Mel has contributed to Positive Behaviour Support Plans and has experience in rehabilitation coordination and case management, including navigating the NDIS, NIISQ, and related systems.

Her practice is grounded in functional, goal-directed intervention and clear communication of clinical information to support informed decision-making.
