FAQs

What happens when my doctor sends a referral to Psychologists and Counsellors?

When a referral is received directly from a GP or Psychiatrist via a secure channel (e.g. Medical Objects), your demographic details are added to the secure record keeping system.  Psychologists and Counsellors will make contact with you advising receipt of the referral to book your first appointment.

You are also welcome to book an appointment via email, however, will need to complete our intake form and provide credit card details to secure the appointment. A referral must be received prior to the initial appointment to be eligible for Medicare rebate.

Can I self-refer to Psychologists and Counsellors?

Yes for treatment you can. You can refer yourself directly to Psychologists and Counsellors.  Simply send an email or complete our query form. However, for ASD and ADHD assessments, we require a doctor and/or allied health professional referral. If you have not seen anyone for your symptoms of concern, we will recommend a minimum of 10 treatment sessions with one of our treating psychologists prior to an ASD and/or ADHD assessment.

What should I expect during a therapy session?

We recognise that seeking psychological therapy can be nerve-wracking, particularly when you are unsure of what to expect in a typical therapy session or it’s your first time. That’s why we encourage all new clients to message us and we can contact you to discuss your unique needs.

What does a Psychologist do?

Psychologists fulfil a therapeutic role, assessing their client’s concerns and life circumstances, and offering support, advice and treatment to address their client’s issues.

Our psychologists:

  • provide some psychological assessments (e.g., Intelligence testing, Memory testing, ASD and ADHD assessment)

  • work to enhance physical performance

  • to address concerns with burnout (e.g., work, study, life in general)

  • work with parents to address learning or behaviour problems at school.
